Following the high take up of our listening circle, which was held in response to the recent racist attacks seen across the UK, we will now be hosting a monthly facilitated online circle for people of the global majority who work in the creative industries, be it as a freelancer or as part of an organisation.
The session will run at 7.30pm on the first Monday evening of every calendar month, with the first circle in our new series taking place on Monday 2nd September.
Global majority Counsellor Cheri Gillings will facilitate the session; ‘This will be a restorative space to pause, breathe, soothe, and connect. In hostile environments, explicit or implied, our threat response is activated. This threat response is energetically expensive and is meant to be used for a short time to get us to safety or to become safe. When this response is activated for long periods of time, it has a damaging impact on our immune system, and our emotional and mental wellbeing. A soothed nervous system is resourceful, flexible and empowered, this is what makes resting, resistance.
A listening circle is a potent way to slow down and connect, to speak intentionally and to listen deeply, to feel the quiet mind within. We know that being in connection with others for the purpose of soul, body and mind soothing, deepens the medicine. In seeing and hearing, being seen and sharing, we are refreshed, restored and reminded that we are not alone’.
You will be welcome to attend whenever you wish, there is no obligation or expectation, the space is simply there for people to make use of when they feel it would be of benefit.
We will follow a listening circle format, which means in this group we are not giving advice or fixing, we are simply holding space for each other.
Each circle will last for up to 90 minutes and will be a confidential space.
The session structure will tend to be as follows:
Introduction
Agreements
Centring mind and breath
Open sharing and silence
Closing
