SUMMARY:Community WhatsApp Group
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Creative Industries Community\, members can join our moderated WhatsApp group — a simple\, accessible space to stay connected with others working across the creative industries. \nThe group offers an opportunity to share experiences\, ask questions\, offer encouragement\, and connect with people who understand the unique realities of working in this sector. Members are welcome to participate as much or as little as they wish — some people contribute regularly\, while others simply read conversations and stay connected to the community. \nThe group is facilitated by trained counsellors who help ensure the space remains respectful\, inclusive and supportive for everyone. They may occasionally guide conversations\, share helpful resources\, or step in if discussions need to be gently redirected. \nMany people join the group feeling unsure what to expect — that’s completely normal. The aim is simply to create a welcoming and thoughtful space where people across the creative industries can connect with others who understand the pressures and challenges of working in this sector. \nThere is no expectation to share personal experiences\, and members are free to take part in a way that feels comfortable for them. \nWhile the group offers peer connection and supportive conversation\, it is not a counselling service. Everyone in the group works in the creative industries\, so you’ll be among people who genuinely understand the realities of this sector. \nTo help maintain a safe and supportive environment\, we ask all members to follow a few simple guidelines: \n\nBe respectful and assume good intentionsPlease communicate with kindness and respect. Remember that tone can sometimes be difficult to interpret in written messages.\nNo promotion\, recruitment or unsolicited adviceTo keep the space supportive and focused on community\, please avoid promoting services\, recruiting\, or offering advice unless it has been specifically requested.\nRespect privacy and boundariesPlease keep conversations within the group confidential and avoid messaging members privately unless they have invited you to do so.\n\nThe aim is to create a community where people feel able to talk\, listen and support one another in a thoughtful and responsible way. \nFor those moments when more structured support is needed\, members can also access the Community’s peer support groups\, wellbeing surgeries\, workshops and events. \nWho This Group Is For\nThis space is for anyone working in the creative industries who would value a supportive community where people understand the realities of working in this sector. \nYou may find the group particularly helpful if you: \n\nWork freelance or project-to-project and sometimes experience the uncertainty that can come with that\nSpend long periods working intensely on productions\, projects or deadlines and would value connection with others in the industry\nLove working in the creative industries but occasionally find the pressures or culture difficult to navigate\nOften support others in your work but rarely have a space to talk openly yourself\nWould simply value connecting with others who understand the unique experiences of creative careers\n\nPeople join the group for many different reasons. Some come because they are navigating a challenging period\, while others simply value being part of a supportive network of peers. \nYou do not need to be struggling to take part — many members simply appreciate having a space to stay connected with others across the creative industries. \nWherever you are in your career\, and whatever stage you are at professionally\, you are welcome. \nOngoing places in the group are for members of the Creative Industries Community only\, and you will be given information on how to access the group once you have signed up to the community.

SUMMARY:Managing Performance Anxiety: Practical Tools for Performers
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop explores performance anxiety — what it is\, why it happens\, and how we can begin to loosen its grip. \nStage fright is often experienced as something to fight or overcome\, but in reality it is a natural human response. When we perceive a threat\, the brain’s amygdala activates the body’s fight\, flight or freeze response — even when the “danger” is simply the fear of being judged by others. Fear itself is not the enemy; it is a protective mechanism designed to keep us safe. Difficulties arise when worry and internal dialogue amplify that fear\, pulling us away from the present moment and into imagined failure. \nBy talking openly about anxiety and learning to accept rather than resist it — as Maya Angelou once advised — we can begin to reduce its power. Understanding the psychological and physiological roots of performance anxiety\, ideas explored from Aristotle through to modern psychology\, allows us to approach it with greater awareness and self-compassion. \nThe workshop also offers practical and empowering strategies. Participants will explore how to focus on what can be controlled: preparing the body well\, regulating breathing\, and shifting attention away from self-judgement and towards connection — with scene partners\, the physical space\, and the audience as collaborators rather than critics. \nWe will also look at techniques for line retention\, flexible warm-ups\, and positive visualisation\, recognising that the brain often responds to imagined success in ways similar to real experience. Just as importantly\, we will explore how to develop a healthier inner dialogue — learning to recognise the anxious voice and respond to it with greater balance and perspective. \nUltimately\, the aim is not to eliminate fear altogether\, but to develop the confidence to work alongside it. Courage is not the absence of fear\, but the willingness to feel it and act anyway. \nParticipants will leave with: \n\nA clearer understanding of why performance anxiety happens and how the brain and body respond to pressure\nPractical techniques to manage nerves and regulate breathing before and during performance\nStrategies to shift attention away from self-judgement and towards connection with the work and the audience\nTools to develop a healthier inner dialogue and build greater confidence under pressure\nApproaches to visualisation\, preparation and line retention that support focus and presence\n\nThe workshop will be led by Thomasina Unsworth\, a former actor turned ICF-accredited Personal Development Coach who specialises in supporting people working in the creative industries. \nRuntime is approximately one hour. \nThis session is FREE to members of our Creative Industries Community and members can book their space using their unique password. \nTickets for non-members are priced at £10. \nWe will be recording the presentation element of the session for those people who cannot attend the live event\, but you must reserve your space to receive a copy of the recording.

SUMMARY:The Actor’s Greatest Fear: Drying — Understanding Why It Happens and How to Recover in the Moment
DESCRIPTION:Few moments are more frightening for an actor than “drying” — the sudden experience of losing your lines or your train of thought in front of an audience. Even highly experienced performers can encounter it\, and the fear of it happening can quietly undermine confidence\, creativity and presence on stage. \nIn this workshop\, actor and psychotherapist Nick Gleaves explores what really happens when an actor dries\, and how performers can better understand and navigate these moments when they arise. \nDrawing on more than 30 years’ experience as an actor in film\, theatre and television\, Nick has a deep understanding of the unique pressures performers face\, and how the highs and lows of the profession can affect both wellbeing and creative freedom. \nAlongside his work as an actor\, Nick has trained as a Jungian Psychodynamic Psychotherapist at the Society of Analytical Psychology\, bringing together his experience of performance with a deeper exploration of the psychological processes that shape creativity\, confidence and presence. \nDuring the workshop\, Nick reflects on his own experience of drying on the first night of a play at the National Theatre\, using this moment as a starting point to explore the psychological dynamics behind drying and the ways actors can work with — rather than against — these experiences. \nThrough a combination of personal insight\, psychological understanding and practical reflection\, the workshop offers actors a deeper understanding of: \n• why drying happens• the psychological factors that can contribute to it• how the fear of drying can affect performance• how actors can maintain creative presence when these moments occur \nRather than seeing drying purely as a failure\, this workshop invites actors to explore how these moments can be understood differently — and how performers can retain their creative confidence and presence even when the unexpected happens. \n\nWho this workshop is for\nThis workshop is open to everyone but may be of particular interest to performers and speakers at all stages of their careers\, including students\, early-career performers and experienced professionals. \nYou do not need to have experienced drying yourself to attend — many actors join simply because they recognise the fear of it happening. \n\nBooking information\nThis session is free for members of the Creative Industries Community\, who can reserve their place using their unique membership password. \nTickets for non-members are £10. \nThe presentation element of the session will be recorded for those who are unable to attend the live event. However\, you must reserve a place in order to receive access to the recording.

SUMMARY:Women’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Peer Support Group (introductory session)
DESCRIPTION:Women working in the creative industries often navigate unique pressures — including job insecurity\, unequal pay\, discrimination\, harassment\, caring responsibilities\, and the challenge of balancing demanding careers with personal life. \nThese pressures can take a real toll on mental health and wellbeing\, yet many women still struggle to find spaces where they can speak openly and feel understood. \nIn response\, we are launching a supportive online group for women working in the creative industries who would value a space to talk\, listen\, and connect with others who understand the realities of the sector. \nYou do not need to be experiencing a crisis to take part — many people join simply because they value having a space where they can talk openly with others who understand the realities of working in the creative industries. \nThe group will be facilitated by Elena Gleed\, an experienced BACP-registered counsellor. \n\nIntroductory session\nBefore the group begins\, anyone interested is invited to attend a short introductory session at 7:30pm on Tuesday 14th April. \nThis informal meeting offers an opportunity to meet the facilitator\, learn more about how the group will work\, and help shape how sessions may be structured. We will also talk through confidentiality and group guidelines\, and there will be time to ask questions. \nThe introductory session also gives you the opportunity to see whether the group feels like the right fit\, helping everyone begin the programme feeling comfortable\, informed\, and ready to engage. \nThere is absolutely no pressure to speak. Many people attend their first session simply to listen and get a feel for the group. \nMost people who join are meeting one another for the first time\, and many attend their first session simply to listen. \nFollowing this session\, the intention is to establish a regular online meeting time\, alongside a dedicated WhatsApp group to help participants stay connected between sessions. \n\nAbout the group\nThis confidential space is designed to allow participants to share experiences\, discuss challenges\, celebrate progress\, and explore common mental health themes — all within a supportive environment guided by a qualified counsellor. \nThe group is simply a space for women to talk\, listen and support one another in a respectful and understanding environment. \nTo help build a consistent and trusting group dynamic\, participants will be encouraged to attend sessions regularly wherever possible. \n\nWhat to expect in the introductory session\nThe introductory session will be relaxed and informal. During the session we will: \n\nIntroduce the facilitator and the purpose of the group\nGive participants the opportunity to briefly introduce themselves (if they wish)\nTalk through confidentiality and group guidelines\nDiscuss what participants would like to gain from the group\nAnswer any questions before regular sessions begin\n\n\nBooking information\nThe introductory session is free to attend for everyone\, and places can be reserved by RSVP. \nIf you are unable to attend the introductory meeting\, but are interested in joining the group once it begins\, please still RSVP\, as this mean that you are included in all future correspondence related to the set up and running of the group. \nOngoing places in the group are for members of the Creative Industries Community only\, who can reserve their place using their unique membership password.

SUMMARY:Neurodiversity Peer Support Group (introductory session)
DESCRIPTION:Neurodiversity is one of the most common themes we see among people working in the creative industries. \nIn response\, we are launching an online peer support group for anyone who is — or suspects they may be — neurodivergent\, whether formally diagnosed or not\, and who would like to strengthen their wellbeing in a supportive and understanding environment. \nThe group will be facilitated by Abbi Bradford\, an experienced BACP-registered counsellor who specialises in working with neurodivergent clients. \nBefore the group begins\, anyone interested is invited to attend a short introductory session at 7:30pm on Wednesday 6 May. \nThis informal meeting offers an opportunity to meet the facilitator\, learn more about how the group will work\, and help shape how sessions may be structured. SUMMARY:Men’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Peer Support Group (introductory session)
DESCRIPTION:Four in five suicides are men\, and the Bupa Wellbeing Index reports that around half of men are struggling with their mental health at any given time. Yet fewer than one in four men have ever sought support. \nIn response\, we are launching an online men’s mental health and wellbeing peer support group for men working in the creative industries who would value a supportive and understanding space to strengthen their wellbeing. \nThe group will be facilitated by Oscar Ward\, a former actor and experienced BACP-registered counsellor. \nBefore the group begins\, anyone interested is invited to attend a short introductory session at 7:30pm on Monday 6 July. There is no pressure to speak — many people attend their first session simply to listen and get a feel for the group. \nFollowing this session\, the intention is to establish a regular online meeting time\, alongside a dedicated WhatsApp group to help participants stay connected between sessions. \nThis confidential space is designed to allow participants to share experiences\, discuss challenges\, celebrate progress\, and explore common mental health themes — all within a supportive environment guided by a qualified male counsellor. The group is simply a space for men to talk\, listen and support one another — you do not need to be experiencing a crisis to take part. \nTo help build a consistent and trusting group dynamic\, participants will be encouraged to attend sessions regularly wherever possible. \nWhat to expect in the introductory session\nThe introductory session will be relaxed and informal. During the session we will: \n\nIntroduce the facilitator and the purpose of the group\nGive participants the opportunity to briefly introduce themselves (if they wish)\nTalk through confidentiality and group guidelines\nDiscuss what participants would like to gain from the group\nAnswer any questions before regular sessions begin\n\nBooking information\nThe introductory session is free to attend for everyone\, and places can be reserved by RSVP.

SUMMARY:Global Majority Mental Health and Wellbeing Peer Support Group (introductory session)
DESCRIPTION:People from the Global Majority working in the creative industries often navigate additional pressures — including underrepresentation\, discrimination\, and the experience of being one of very few people from similar backgrounds in professional spaces. Alongside the usual challenges of working in the creative sector\, such as job insecurity\, long hours and financial instability\, these experiences can sometimes leave people feeling isolated or unsupported. \nIn response\, we are launching a supportive online group for people from the Global Majority who work in the creative industries\, offering a space to talk\, listen and connect with others who may share similar experiences. \nYou do not need to be experiencing a crisis to take part — many people join simply because they value having a space where they can talk openly with others who understand the realities of working in the creative industries. \nThe group will be facilitated by Kirsty Okonkwo\, an experienced BACP-registered counsellor. \n\nIntroductory session\nBefore the group begins\, anyone interested is invited to attend a short introductory session at 7:30pm on Monday 8th June 2026. \nThe group is simply a space where participants can talk\, listen and support one another in a respectful and understanding environment. \nTo help build a consistent and trusting group dynamic\, participants will be encouraged to attend sessions regularly wherever possible. \n\nWhat to expect in the introductory session\nThe introductory session will be relaxed and informal. During the session we will: \n• Introduce the facilitator and the purpose of the group• Give participants the opportunity to briefly introduce themselves (if they wish)• Talk through confidentiality and group guidelines• Discuss what participants would like to gain from the group• Answer any questions before regular sessions begin \n\nBooking information\nThe introductory session is free to attend for everyone\, and places can be reserved by RSVP.

For many people in the LGBTQIA+ community\, these pressures may be compounded by experiences of discrimination\, marginalisation\, or the challenge of navigating professional spaces where you may not always feel fully understood or supported. \nFinding spaces where you can speak openly and connect with others who share similar experiences can make a meaningful difference to mental health and wellbeing. \nIn response\, we are launching a small\, supportive online group for LGBTQIA+ people working in the creative industries\, offering a space to talk\, listen and connect with others who understand the realities of the sector. \nYou do not need to be experiencing a crisis to take part — many people join simply because they value having a space where they can talk openly with others who understand the realities of working in the creative industries. \nThe group will be facilitated by experienced BACP-registered counsellors. \n\nIntroductory session\nBefore the group begins\, anyone interested is invited to attend a short introductory session at 7:30pm on [date]. \nThis informal meeting offers an opportunity to meet the facilitator\, learn more about how the group will work\, and help shape how sessions may be structured.
